What do we do?

The Specialists of BC work to represent member and patient needs on governing boards and committees

The Specialists of BC create awareness of the value medical, surgical and diagnostic specialties provide to members, non-member specialists, family physicians, Doctors of BC, and patients

A larger membership of specialists enables a collective voice that achieves tangible benefits for individual members

A clear and effective voice for specialists is necessary to improve and transform health care delivery to meet the demands on the system

How can you benefit?

By gaining access to expertise when and where it is needed

By acting as knowledgeable partner in connecting expertise to opportunities within the health system

By advocating for fair compensation for specialists

By supporting collaborative efforts to save money and improve the quality of care within the healthcare system

How can we all benefit?

Informing the evolution of the healthcare system with the unique perspectives of specialists

Effectively influencing the equality and equity of compensation for specialists

What is the Council of Specialists?

The Council of Specialists is currently composed of 32 specialty groups of physicians and surgeons. The Council meets to conduct business pertaining to the economic and political interests of specialty medicine. Regular meetings are held quarterly, and an annual general meeting is convened each year.

Our President

Dr John Falconer is a clinical neurologist in Kelowna, BC, specializing in stroke. John has been the specialty group representative to our Council in his role as section head for Neurology.
