Kamloops OBGYN crisis no surprise to BC specialists
Kamloops, B.C. - The resignation of seven Kamloops maternity specialists was no surprise for others across the province, in part because it’s not the only community where doctors say they’re strained by the workload.
UBC professor and women’s health specialist Dr. Chelsea Elwood said obstetrician-gynecologists have been warning the province for years about a looming shortage of specialists, while negotiations with health ministry officials died after the last election.

B.C. OB/GYNs warn government of ‘looming maternity crisis’
Kamloops, B.C. - More than 100 obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYN) in B.C. are standing in solidarity with their colleagues who have resigned from Interior Health due to frustrations with the provincial government.
The 128 B.C. OB/GYNs penned a letter in which they warn that the province is on the brink of a full-blown crisis in maternity health care.
